An intravenous drug abuser with chronic meningitis died after a prolonged hospitalization from fungal meningitis diagnosed at autopsy. We examine the diagnostic pitfalls and consider how a computer-assisted diagnostic system may influence the outcome of an otherwise fatal condition.
